GEDfest celebrates Gord Downie’s legacy and raises $25K for KGH Foundation

The legacy of Canadian music icon Gord Downie was celebrated at the recent GEDfest event in Kelowna, which also raised an impressive $25,000 for the Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) Foundation.

The festival, which took place on August 14th at the Rotary Centre for the Arts, featured live music performances, food and drinks, and a silent auction. All proceeds from the event went towards supporting the KGH Foundation’s efforts to improve healthcare in the Okanagan region.

Gord Downie, who passed away in 2017, was the lead singer of the iconic Canadian band The Tragically Hip. He was also a passionate advocate for Indigenous rights and environmental issues. GEDfest aimed to honor his legacy by bringing together the community and raising funds for a worthy cause.

The event was organized by local musician and Downie fan, Devon Coyote, who was inspired by Downie’s music and activism. Coyote, along with other local artists, performed at the festival, paying tribute to the late musician and his impact on Canadian culture.

In addition to the live performances, GEDfest also featured a silent auction with items donated by local businesses and individuals. The auction raised a significant amount of money, contributing to the overall $25,000 donation to the KGH Foundation.

The KGH Foundation expressed their gratitude for the generous donation, stating that the funds will go towards supporting the hospital’s most urgent needs, including new medical equipment and technology.

Overall, GEDfest was a successful and meaningful event, bringing together the community to celebrate the life and legacy of Gord Downie while also making a positive impact on healthcare in the Okanagan region.
